1984 and now

During the past 2 weeks I have been recovering from injuries sustained from being hit by a car while riding my bicycle and also a Hernia operation. I have been grateful when friends or relaives have called in to visit, plus the help from Blue Care staff. To keep myself occupied in between times, one of the things I have done is to go through old files to discard anything that is out of date and in this process I came across my 1984 diary which recorded daily events. I now realise why friends and relatives envied my lifestyle back then when I lived on the Gold Coast as I had plenty of time to go surfing, swimming, paddling on my surf ski in between daily and teaching music to about 24 students a week. What a perfect life I had then. The music lessons would only take up about 15 hours of my time each week, whereas I probably spent twice that amount of time enjoying getting some exercise in the clean, warm Pacific ocean.
So the moral of the story is that we should make the most of our life and what we can do at the time especially when we are young. When I recover from my injuries I will be able to swim and go for short walks, drive and ride my bicycle, but will never be able to regain my youth or the strength and vitality I had then. I gracefully have to accept my limitations, do some exercises to relieve pain and keep fit and continue to enjoy doing what I can still do and make the most of life.
